Editor,

Union County High School has officially adopted a new system for honoring students. Our goal is to challenge, encourage, recognize, and reward academic achievement. We will recognize three tiers of success.

The first tier, SUMMA CUM LAUDE, is our highest honors tier. Students must have earned a 3.9 grade point average (g.p.a.) or above to be recognized in this “gold” tier.

The second tier, MAGNA CUM LAUDE, or high honors recognizes those students who have earned a 3.7-3.899 g.p.a. or the “silver” tier.

Finally, our last tier, or CUM LAUDE, recognizes students who have earned a 3.5-3.699 g.p.a.

The new system of honoring students was approved at the November, 2011, school board meeting after a committee researched and recommended the change.

Congratulations to all of the honorees as they strive toward individual accountability and excellence!
