Golfers win Ripley title and more

Batesville won its second four-way golf meet in as many days last Tuesday, this one played at Lawrenceburg’s Hidden Valley Golf Club against LHS, Oldenburg Academy and Franklin County. BHS scored 165 to Lawrenceburg’s 181, FC’s 188 and OA’s 219.

Cameron Williamson was medalist on his home course by three strokes, shooting even-par 36 to the Bulldogs’ Ian Hixson’s 39. Other BHS scores were Cooper Phebus (41), Landon Raver (42), Jackson Day (43), Jon Moody (48) and Henry Koehne (56). 

Connor Miles of OA outdueled everyone on LHS and FC except Williamson; he shot 45. Behind him were Twisters Henry Wanstrath (53), Cale Johannigman (59), Auggie Hillenbrand and Carson Ruter (62) and Bryce Crain (68). Carson Allen and Gavin Gillman each carded 46 for the Wildcats.

Thursday the Dogs dispatched North Decatur and Hauser at Hillcrest’s front nine. BHS scored 165 to ND’s 185 and 218 by the Jets.

Day was medalist with 2-over 37; Hixson also came in under all non-BHS scores with 39. Raver shot 44, Moody 45, Leo Moody 48 and Phebus 51. Koehne (43) and Kaiden Eckstein (50) rounded for the JV.

Jack Koehne was low for ND with 42. Hauser’s Hunter Pappano shot 40.

Friday all Batesville golfers outpaced rivals Rushville and South Dearborn at Hillcrest, both BHS squads finishing well ahead of the Lions (206) and Knights (227). Batesville Blue shot 177 while the White team was on their tails at 182.

Phebus of team White earned medalist with 3-over 38. Teammate Day holed 39. Hixson (42), Koehne (44), J. Moody (45) and L. Moody (46) were next on team Blue and Raver shot 49 for White, equal to the best effort from the other schools (Rushville’s Griffin Norris). Brody Gibson of the Blue squad carded 50 and Eckstein (56), Zach Allen (57) and Vincent Watkins (60) rounded out BHS scoring. Camdyn Dausch was low for SD at 55.

With four members on the all-Ripley County team, BHS claimed the county title at North Branch Monday with a score of 151. Milan shot 165, Jac-Cen-Del 197 and South Ripley 241.

Hixson outdueled Milan’s Jackson Voss in a one-hole playoff to earn county MVP at one-over 37. Phebus, Day and J. Moody all had 38. Raver finished at 40.

The Dogs are at Shelbyville Thursday.
