Lions boast 3 conference champs

AURORA – The Rushville Lions on the strength of three conference champs placed third at the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference wrestling meet held Saturday at South Dearborn. RCHS tallied 204 points with Franklin County winning after scoring 253.

Sam Pavey at 175 pounds, Briggs Tackett at 106 and Blake Hunt at 113 won each of their three matches including each topping an FC Wildcat in the finals. Every Lion placed and all 14 brackets were populated for the Rush County squad.

Pavey started with a forfeit, then posted a decision and 7-3 win over Lane Westerman in the championship bout. Tackett began with a pair of pins before battling to a 4-0 decision over Bryce Bruns in the final. Hunt got to the semis with a forfeit; he then pinned his way to the title with the capper coming against Roger Zurborg.

Trey Newman was runner-up at 215. He started with a forfeit and a tight 7-6 win in the semifinals. He was pinned by East Central's Brayden Rouse in the title match.

At 157 Denver Campbell claimed third. He went 2-1 in matches decided by fall, then won by medical forfeit.

Placing 4th were Quinn Barada (150), Kaleb Amos (190), Ty Ellis (144), Pacey Dye (138) and Kyle Jacobs (126). Each went 2-2 on the day.

Elijah Biggs at 165, Dom Evans at 285, Zakk Reed at 120 and Kian Nash at 132 were all triumphant in the 5th-6th place match. Each won twice and lost twice at the event.

The regular season concludes Thursday at Shelbyville.
